I have more brushes than I’ll ever need, and, like many painters I am always looking for new ones to try.
However, I always go back to my Grumbacher 1″ Flat Aquarelle. I got this brush at a Rex Brandt summer workshop in 1978, and it has been going strong ever since. It was new on the market at the time and rather pricey-about $150. The Brandts though were selling them to workshop attendees on a cost-plus basis for around $44 and change. Even this was not really cheap in ’78.
This brush evokes a lot of pleasant memories of the 3 Rex Brandt/Joan Irving Brandt Summer Schools of Painting I attended.
